Effects of Altitude on Heart

Heart gets additional protection from high altitude living.  According to Benjamin Honigman, MD Professor of Emergency Medicine and Director of Altitutde Medicine clinic "Lower oxygen levels turn on certain genes and we think those genes may change the way heart muscles function.  They may also produce new blood vessels that create new highways for blood flow into the heart."  In his opinion Cancer risk too is reduced due to living in mountain regions due to better synthesis of vitamin D.  Read details from
